Katherine Robertson launching 2026 campaign for Alabama Attorney General in June with Steve Marshall’s support

A top contender in the Alabama Attorney General’s race in 2026 is kicking off her campaign in early June, according to an event posting and endorsement email circulated this week.

Katherine Robertson, Chief Council to current Attorney General Steve Marshall, has been gearing up a run for the office in recent months.

“Katherine and Ryan Robertson cordially invite you to a reception and special announcement, featuring Attorney General Steve Marshall, the evening of Tuesday, June 10th at 6:00pm,” the event listing reads.

Robertson has a lengthy resume, including senior positions in the U.S. Department of Justice and the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee under former U.S. Attorney General and Senator Jeff Sessions.

An endorsement from veteran law enforcement professional and former Sylacauga Chief of Police, Chris Carden, made the rounds on Thursday afternoon. In an email to friends and supporters, Carden spoke highly of Robertson and promoted her campaign kickoff event.

“I’ve never written a public endorsement like this before, and I wouldn’t be doing it now if I didn’t believe in it wholeheartedly,” Carden wrote in an email obtained by Yellowhammer News.

“When Steve Marshall became Alabama’s Attorney General, the landscape for law enforcement in our state changed for the better. From how we were represented in both Congress and the Alabama Legislature to the personal relationships he built with officers across the state, Steve set a new standard. I’ve never seen an Attorney General connect with the law enforcement community the way he has, and I’ve never known a stronger, more consistent advocate for our profession. It speaks volumes that he trusted Katherine Robertson enough to name her his chief counsel and closest legal advisor.

“Now, as many of you know, Steve is term-limited, and the race for Alabama Attorney General is on. That’s why I want to tell you about Katherine Robertson.

“Katherine grew up in Selma, Alabama, earned her undergraduate degree from Auburn University, and went on to graduate from the University of Alabama School of Law. She began her career at the U.S. Justice Department twenty years ago and has stayed the course in public service ever since. She’s not just a lawyer, she’s someone who truly understands the demands of our profession and has spent nearly a decade standing in the gap on our behalf in Alabama. I’ve seen firsthand just how tough she is, holding her ground in the State House with lobbyists and legislators, never backing down from a fight when it comes to protecting and standing up for Alabama law enforcement,” Carden wrote.

Robertson has increased her public-facing engagements in recent months, including an address to the Alabama Legislature, media appearances, and launching her official social media presence.

Other candidates for AG in 2026 include Blount County District Attorney Pamela Casey and former Alabama Supreme Court Justice Jay Mitchell.

The official start of the 2026 campaign season fundraising began last Monday, which marked exactly one year out from the Alabama primary election date, May 19, 2026.
