Justice Sarah Stewart picks up endorsement from GOP, community leader John Killian

Conservative grassroots leader Dr. John Killian has endorsed Associate Justice Sarah Stewar for the office of Chief Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court. Killian is a longtime fixture in the Alabama Republican Party and a mainstay community leader.

“I know her character and her conviction,” Dr. Killian said. “I also know her record.”

“I know her very well. I really do,” Killian said. “She is a fine Christian woman; but she is also a very capable administrator.”

In addition to serving on the state’s highest court, the chief justice is also the head of the entire Alabama Judicial System and makes many key decisions including appointing the administrator of the court system.

“People don’t realize it, but that is the largest part of what they do (as Chief Justice). She is uniquely qualified for that role.”

“It’s truly an honor to have the support and endorsement from an Alabama Statesman such as John Killian along with so many more conservatives from around our state,” Justice Stewart said. “I’m thankful for his support and his appreciation of my proven record as a conservative Justice.”

Killian is the Chairman of the Fayette County Republican Party. He is the past President of the Alabama Baptist Convention from 2012 to 2014. Presently he is the director of missions for the Fayette Association. He previously served as pastor of Maytown Church for 19 years. He also served at Sharon Heights Church in Birmingham, and at First Church in Boldo. He taught at the New Orleans Seminary extension.

Stewart has served on the Alabama Supreme Court since 2018. Prior to her Supreme Court service, she served 13 years as a Circuit Court Judge in Mobile County. She has a law degree from Vanderbilt University and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Arkansas where she was the President of the Student Government Association.

Stewart is running against former State Senator Bryan Taylor in the Republican primary on March 5. Incumbent Chief Justice Tom Parker is not seeking another term.

The winner of the Republican primary will go on to face Democratic nominee Judge Greg Griffin in the November 5 general election.
