Clarke County District Judge James Harding Morgan Jr. on Monday instituted a gag order on the case of a high school football coach accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a teenage girl.

Morgan’s ruling came shortly after Clarke County High School head football coach Rob Carter had a bond hearing on the charges. Clarke County Assistant District Attorney Mason R. Bonner filed a motion that all those involved in either the prosecution or defense, including attorneys and witnesses, are forbidden to release any information pertaining to Carter’s case.

Carter, 55, of Frisco City, was extradited from Niceville, Fla., and booked into the Clarke County Jail on Monday on multiple charges of violating Alabama’s School Employee Sex Act, which makes it a felony for a school employee to engage in a sexual act with a student under the age of 19, according to court documents.

Carter is accused of violating the sex act as many as 11 times between December 2024 and as recently as Feb. 9, according to court documents.

Carter engaged in sexual intercourse with the student on Jan. 25 and 29 and Feb. 1 and 4 and sent explicit sexual photos to the student on Dec. 24, Jan. 28 and 29 and on Feb. 9, according to warrants issued by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.

Carter, who has been placed on administrative leave by the Clarke County Board of Education, has served as the Bulldogs’ coach since 2023.

An investigation into the allegations was led by the Grove Hill Police Department, Clarke County Sheriff’s Department and the 1st Judicial Major Crimes Task Force.

Arrest warrants for Carter were issued by the ALEA on Friday, when he was captured in Niceville, Fla., during a traffic stop, according to the Clarke County Sheriff’s Department.

Carter was booked into the Clarke County Jail on Monday and released on $122,000 bail.

Before joining Clarke County, Carter was the head coach at Beauregard High School, where he led the team to the Class 5A state championship in 2016. He is 15-10 with two region titles at Clarke County.
