Jerry Carl decries Biden ‘pushing failed Obama-era policies during his first days in office’

In a statement on Friday, Congressman Jerry Carl (AL-01) decried the sweeping executive orders by President Joe Biden since he became president at noon on Wednesday.

Carl noted that he began Biden’s presidency by extending an olive branch and offering to work bipartisanly with the new administration on key issues through the congressional process. However, Biden — at least thus far — does not seem interested in working with or through Congress, even though Democrats control both chambers.

“Earlier this week, I joined many of my Republican colleagues in sending a letter to President Biden expressing our willingness to work with him on specific bipartisan issues,” Carl reiterated. “These issues include improving our nation’s infrastructure and restoring our economy in the aftermath of the coronavirus pandemic.”

“While I support the President’s decision to continue the Operation Warp Speed plan created by President Trump, I am deeply disappointed with many of his actions which are divisive and harmful to American families,” he explained.

Biden has unilaterally taken drastic action on a number of major issues in his first hours in office. Carl’s statement singled out the following orders as examples of actions the Republican congressman opposes:

  • Rejoining the Paris Climate Accord eliminates thousands of American jobs and gives China a competitive advantage over America’s energy industry.
  • Cancelling the Keystone XL Pipeline further cripples America’s energy industry by eliminating American energy jobs, moving America further away from energy independence, and denying Americans access to affordable energy.
  • Blocking funding for the border wall and granting mass amnesty for 11 million people creates a disastrous national security threat.
  • Pledging to reverse the Mexico City policy, which currently prohibits American aid money from funding groups that perform or promote abortion, will drive up the number and rate of abortions around the globe.

“Republicans have proven that we are willing to come to the table and negotiate bipartisan compromises that will strengthen our nation and help American families, but the Democrats’ actions to harm countless American families show they are not willing to unify the American people,” Carl concluded. “By pushing failed Obama-era policies during his first days in office, President Biden is already attempting to undo the progress we have seen in the last four years, and I will continue fighting against this far-left radical push to transform our nation.”
