Former Alabama Supreme Court Justice Jay Mitchell officially launched his campaign for Alabama Attorney General first thing Monday morning.
In preparation for his run in the 2026 Alabama Republican Party primary as the state’s top law enforcement official, Mitchell recently resigned from the bench of the Alabama Supreme Court after serving for more than eight years.
Today, Mitchell announces he’s a proud Alabamian, a proven conservative and a warrior for President Trump and the America First agenda, and will bring to bear extensive experience as a judge and a lawyer in “going to battle for the people of Alabama.”
“With President Trump in the White House, we have a unique opportunity to get conservative wins here in Alabama,” Mitchell said. “I’m running for Attorney General to stop the lawlessness, restore order, and dismantle Joe Biden’s radical left wing policies.”

Mitchell also released a minute-long video ad unveiling his campaign.
Mitchell says he is known for his strong conservative rulings and tough-on-crime approach to law and order at the Alabama Supreme Court and that he is eager to take a more proactive role in implementing the Trump agenda as the state’s top law enforcement official.
“This isn’t just my race– it’s our fight for Alabama’s future. I’ll take on the radical left, advance the Trump agenda, and never stop fighting for our state,” Mitchell said.
Also according to Mitchell’s newly-launched campaign website, the former Associate Justice says he vows to crack down on violent crime, enforce immigration law, always back the blue, defend the sanctity of life, and fight the woke agenda anywhere it metastasizes.
Mitchell also launched social media pages on Truth Social, X, and Facebook.
Other contenders for the 2026 Attorney General’s race include Katherine Robertson, who works for current AG Steve Marshall, and Pamela Casey, current District Attorney of Blount County. Casey has already announced her campaign while Robertson is preparing to announce at an event with supporters in Birmingham on June 10. Lloyd Peoples, another candidate, whose background includes the Department of Justice was speculated to jump into the race, but has reportedly decided against running.
According to the Alabama Secretary of State’s office, Mitchell reported having a total of $654,304.40 cash on hand in his campaign account for Associate Justice. He can purpose those funds for his campaign for AG in 2016.
While that report was filed at the end of January, and Mitchell is expected to post additional gains on his first monthly filing for his newly-formed Attorney General principal campaign committee when those reports are available this week.
The 2026 Alabama primary election date is set for May 19, 2026.
