Jacksonville State trolls in-state rivals as only Alabama school to win a bowl game

The Jacksonville State Gamecocks have been one of the better non-power four programs in college football over the years, and in addition to their play on the field, they’ve stepped up their social media game as well.

Following a narrow win over Troy at the Salute to Veterans Bowl in Montgomery, the Gamecocks became the only team in the Yellowhammer State to win a bowl game this year, and they let everyone know about it on their X account.

While Alabama did win a postseason game with their dramatic road win at Oklahoma, it was not technically a bowl victory.

Auburn did not qualify for a bowl and turned down the invitation to play in the Birmingham Bowl, and after their dreadful season, South Alabama did not qualify for a bowl either.

By defeating the only other FBS program in the state — in what was a 17-13 classic at the Cramton Bowl — Jacksonville State earned the right to say they are the only Alabama team with a bowl win this season.

It’s the kind of win that builds momentum heading into year two under Charles Kelly — and gives the Gamecocks plenty to post about until next fall.
