Governor Kay Ivey is reminding Alabama families that the deadline to apply or renew participation in the state’s CHOOSE Act school choice program is quickly approaching.

According to the governor’s office, applications and renewals for the 2026-27 school year must be submitted by midnight on March 31.

Families already participating in the program for the 2025-26 school year must complete a renewal application to remain eligible, while new applicants — including those who previously did not apply or were not awarded — can submit applications through the CHOOSE Act website.

“The CHOOSE Act is giving families across our state the opportunity to choose the education that best fits their children’s needs,” said Ivey. “With the March 31 deadline fast approaching, I encourage every eligible family to take advantage and submit their application or renewal. Don’t miss this opportunity — get your application in before March 31!”

The CHOOSE Act provides eligible families with education savings account funding that can be used for approved expenses such as school tuition, tutoring, educational therapies and other qualified education costs.

Funding available through the program includes $7,000 per eligible student enrolled in a participating school and $2,000 per participating student enrolled in a home education program, with a maximum of $4,000 per family for home education students.

The program is managed by the Alabama Department of Revenue. According to the release, families approved for 2026-27 funding will be notified in April, and participating students can begin using those funds for approved expenses in July.
