Ivey partners with Walmart for two additional COVID-19 screening sites

Alabama Governor Kay Ivey announced Thursday the launch of two new sites for drive-thru coronavirus screening.

The sites, located in Montgomery and Adamsville, are partnerships between the State of Alabama, Walmart and Quest Diagnostics.

Ivey announced earlier this week that she is currently developing the plan for how the state will reopen its economy. Experts agree that robust testing availability will be a key aspect of any economic reopening.

The new sites announced by Ivey are by appointment only and will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

“I greatly appreciate the efforts by Walmart and Quest Diagnostics to provide additional testing locations that are secure and easily accessible,” Ivey said in remarks accompanying the announcement.

The testing sites are open to any health care worker or first responder, and also any member of the public who is currently experiencing symptoms.

“Walmart is part of the community, and we are proud to help support the expansion of COVID-19 testing in Alabama during this unprecedented time,” remarked Glen Wilkens, Walmart public affairs director for Alabama, in a statement provided by the governor’s office.

“I want to thank Walmart and Quest Diagnostics for this service to our residents. The Adamsville store location is heavily frequented by Birmingham residents from the northwestern section of the city,” advised Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin.

“The City of Montgomery is fortunate to have partners such as Walmart and Quest Diagnostics. Increased testing opportunities are crucial to our area stemming the spread of this pandemic,” added Montgomery Mayor Steven Reed.

Those interesting in scheduling a test can do so here.
