Named after the region’s innate Limestone Creek, the rich heritage of Limestone County itself dates back to 1818. The county seat, Athens, has antebellum homes, a downtown square, scenic parks and trails, as well as opportunities to boat and fish just a stone’s throw away.
But, Limestone County’s warmth is striking for another reason: It’s also the fastest growing county in Alabama.
Alongside what residents call “a close-knit community” sits colleges, state-of-the-art medical facilities, 21st century job opportunities, top-notch public schools, and infrastructure that offers breathable access to anywhere in the region.
Precisely, that’s 30 minutes to Huntsville; 75 minutes to Nashville; 90 minutes to Birmingham. And a straight shot down I-65 to the beach.
How fast is Limestone County growing? Latest U.S. Census data estimates that an average of 10 people move to Limestone County each and every day.
This begs the question, will Limestone County remain a “hidden” gem for long?
Local leaders and economic developers say it’s currently a perfect balance between comfort and growth – intentionally planned to accommodate for the future.
It’s going to take quite some time for enough prospective residents to learn the secret. In the meantime, Limestone County remains a great place to live, and a nice place to visit – no matter where you’re coming from.
Whether someone is simply taking a weekend trip from Huntsville to unwind on Elk River and Wheeler Lake, or looking to make a big move from out-of-state to take a new job in one of the area’s bustling industries – Limestone County has been, and will be there.
