The hype surrounding one of the most anticipated Iron Bowls in recent memory has made its way to the Alabama Senate.
Senate President Pro Tem Del Marsh, R-Anniston, an Auburn University graduate, and Sen. Roger Bedford, D-Russellville, a Bama grad, have entered into a gentleman’s agreement in which the loser will wear the winning team’s hat on the first day of the legislature and co-sponsor a resolution to congratulate the winning team.
While both agree that the Iron Bowl is great for the state and the fans, they did get their fun jabs in against each other.
“The Iron Bowl is a time-honored tradition for the state of Alabama. The nature of this rivalry provides for a significant economic impact to our state and the schools themselves,” Del Marsh said. “Regardless of who you cheer for, or which side of the political aisle you’re on, this is something we can all celebrate. There’s not an Auburn fan in the state who’s more excited than me about seeing a passionate Alabama fan like Senator Bedford sporting orange and blue on the opening day of the 2014 legislative session.”
“Hearing Senator Marsh offer up a hearty ‘Roll Tide’ while wearing crimson and white will be a fantastic start to the 2014 legislative session,” Bedford added. “Alabama and Auburn are consistently ranked as two of the top universities in the country and the Iron Bowl represents a great opportunity to showcase our beloved schools to the rest of the country.”
Kickoff for the Iron Bowl will be 2:30 pm this Saturday on CBS.
