Alexander City’s three-way mayor’s race is heading to a runoff after no candidate secured a majority on Tuesday.
With all six precincts reported, incumbent Mayor Curtis “Woody” Baird led with 1,482 votes (42.7%), followed by businessman and pastor Mike Densmore with 1,086 (31.3%) and City Council President Audrey “Buffy” Colvin with 901 (26.0%).
That’s 3,469 total ballots, with Baird finishing just 396 votes ahead of Densmore.
Baird, first elected mayor in 2020, is seeking a second term.
Baird’s first term has been shadowed by months of drinking-water complaints from residents, who report brown, cloudy tap water with a sewage-like odor, as well as a breakdown in relations with the city council, whose meetings he is no longer able to attend.
Densmore is a longtime local pastor and small businessman and Colvin serves as the city council’s president.
The runoff election between Densmore and Baird will take place on September 23, 2025.
