SUMMERDALE, Ala. — With a population of less than 1,000, the quiet south Alabama town of Summerdale is not accustomed to dealing with a lot of violent criminals. But unbeknownst to local police Corporal Vince Miller, that is exactly what he had on his hands when he pulled over a vehicle earlier this week on suspicion of drunk driving.

The driver of the vehicle quickly became hostile with Corporal Miller, then turned violent when he tried to arrest the man for DUI. Two passengers further escalated the situation by exiting the vehicle and joining the assault.

“10-48: officer needs assistance,” Miller yelled into his radio, prompting almost two dozen officers to immediately respond to his location.

Miller was beaten over the head and shoulders, and even sustained a bite wound from one of the individuals, all of whom were ultimately discovered to be illegal immigrants from central America.

The officer ultimately gained control of the situation and placed the three men under arrest. Miller’s minor wounds were later treated at a local hospital and he was released shortly thereafter.

“He did bite pretty good and it took a little piece off of me,” officer Miller told local CBS affiliate WKRG. “I did reach for my weapon several times. It could have been fatal.”

Bite

The attackers have all been charged with assault, resisting arrest, public intoxication, obstruction and refusing to aid a police officer. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials have been contacted and will presumably deport the men after their case works its way through the justice system.

The Summerdale assault marks the latest case of illegal immigrants violently attacking Alabama citizens and law enforcement officials.

In another disturbing example, Ramiro Ajualip, a 27-year-old illegal Mexican immigrant living in Alabama, confessed to raping a ten-year-old Alabama girl earlier this year.

According to police, Ajualip raped and sodomized the young girl, then threatened her life in an attempt to keep her quiet. She later broke down and revealed the vicious attack to her parents.

“You know, (it was) a 10-year-old child that probably has no idea what`s really going on,” said Russellville Police Chief Chris Hargett. “It`s sad because now that child is going to be scarred for the rest of her life.”

Senator Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.) recently introduced a bill seeking to close loopholes in the federal government’s enforcement of immigration law.

The bill, dubbed the “Protecting American Lives Act,” would require state and local jurisdictions to notify the federal government when a criminal alien is in their custody. It would also establish a 5-year minimum prison sentence for deported aliens who attempt to illegally re-enter the United States.

“There is no delicate balancing act here,” Sessions said, “we need to remove potentially violent offenders before they hurt innocent families—before the irreversible occurs… This bill will make all communities safer.”
