The Huntsville City Council has approved a transformative new development that will bring more than 500,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space to north Huntsville. The $240 million project represents a major private investment in the city’s growing northern corridor. The City shared a social media post about the development.
The development, called North Village Town Center, will be located at the intersection of State Route 255 and Memorial Parkway — directly across from the new Food City grocery store that opened in July.
The first announced retail anchors are Target and Home Depot, with construction planned for the west side of Memorial Parkway near the Northern Bypass intersection. Additional tenants will be announced later.
“This is a project that has been years in the making and meets a need for residents in north Huntsville,” said Mayor Tommy Battle. “Residents from outside of Huntsville, including southern Tennessee, will also benefit from this development. The development of this retail center is a result of our success in bringing in new jobs, infrastructure investments and several new residential communities to District 1. Today, we were able to announce a massive retail development that north Huntsville deserves.”
District 1 Council Member Michelle Watkins said the project marks an important milestone for the area. “This project is a tremendous win for District 1 as well as all of Huntsville,” Watkins said. “I am excited about this new development and I want to thank the administration and my Council colleagues for their support. It’s a new day in Huntsville and I can’t wait until the groundbreaking.”
The project will feature a wide range of retail and dining options, including department stores, grocery and home improvement outlets, fitness centers, and smaller local shops.
An Express Oil Change will also be part of the project, located on the east side of Memorial Parkway in front of Food City.
Construction is expected to begin in spring 2026, with store openings planned for 2027. A second phase will later expand retail space on the north side of the Northern Bypass at Memorial Parkway.
