Four Alabama cities have made U.S. News’ list of the nation’s “Best Places to Live” for 2020-2021.
The publication used five indices to analyze the United States’ most populous metropolitan areas and then ranked the best 150 cities.
“To make the top of the list, a place had to have good value, be a desirable place to live, have a strong job market and a high quality of life,” U.S. News advised.
Huntsville was the top-performing Yellowhammer State city, coming in at No. 15. The Rocket City actually was ranked highest in the nation by U.S. News for its value. The city was also given especially high marks for its job market.
Next for Alabama, Birmingham was ranked the 109th best city to live in America. The city’s value and job market were rated well compared to other metro areas nationwide.
Montgomery, Alabama’s capital city, was named at No. 123. The city’s value rating, while significantly lower than Huntsville’s and slightly lower than Birmingham’s, still held up well compared to the rest of the country.
Finally, Mobile came in at the 135th best city to live. The city did not perform especially well in any of the five indices. Mobile’s value rating was lower than the other three Alabama cities but still decent relative to the rest of America.
