A Homewood daycare employee was arrested Monday morning on attempted murder charges after an argument with a parent escalated into gunfire, according to the Homewood Police Department.

According to law enforcement, a parent and her sister arrived at the daycare to drop off a child and became involved in a verbal argument with an employee. The confrontation turned physical but was broken up by other staff members. The parent, her sister, and the child then left the daycare in their vehicle and drove down Carr Avenue toward Greensprings Highway.
Witnesses told police that the daycare employee followed the family in her own vehicle and fired multiple shots at their car with a handgun. Investigators later recovered a bullet from a tire on the victims’ vehicle.
Homewood Police said the daycare employee was taken into custody and is being held pending formal charges of attempted murder.

The daycare’s owner told WBRC that the incident stemmed from the family arriving after the center’s posted drop-off cutoff time and alleged that the parent struck one employee, breaking her nose, while the parent’s sister slammed another worker into a wall and struck a third employee during the altercation.
Detectives and crime scene investigators processed the scene, and no further injuries were reported.
The suspect’s name has not yet been released pending the filing of formal charges.
