Betting markets for the 2024 presidential election are narrowing as Vice President Kamala Harris gains ground on former President Donald Trump.
Though polls often present varied pictures, betting odds are considered more stable indicators. Harris, who had around a 2% chance before President Biden announced he would not seek re-election, saw her odds rise to over 37% by July 23, according to ElectionBettingOdds. Since then, Harris has steadily increased her standing, drawing closer to even odds.
Trump’s odds, which peaked at 68.5% following an assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania, have fallen to 51.7%, representing a 6.4% decline over the past week, according to ElectionBettingOdds. Meanwhile, Harris’s odds climbed to 45.5%, an increase of more than 6% in the same period, peaking at over 46% on August 1.
Although Trump still leads, the race has tightened considerably compared to a few weeks ago.
