Two state lawmakers who played a leading role in the renewal and expansion of Alabama’s economic incentives – known as the Game Plan – were honored as the Economic Development Association of Alabama’s “Legislators of the Year.”
The EDAA presented Sen. Garlan Gudger (R-Cullman) and Rep. Danny Garrett (R-Trussville) with the recognition Monday during its summer conference luncheon with Gov. Kay Ivey.

The men have been long-time supporters of Alabama’s economic development efforts as well as the state’s economic development professionals, the EDAA said.
The Game Plan passed during this year’s legislative session is the key playbook Alabama uses to attract and secure industry developments, create jobs and build communities.
“Without legislative action, our incentive programs were due to expire this summer, so we had to act quickly,” Ivey said Monday. “Thank you to Senator Garlan Gudger and Representative Danny Garrett for guiding The Game Plan through the Legislature to final passage, and not a moment too soon.”

“I am honored to receive this prestigious award from EDAA. Economic development is extremely important to the success and future of our state,” Gudger said. “It is imperative that we have the tools needed to recruit and maintain quality companies and jobs in Alabama.”
EDAA’s membership includes 500 economic development professionals, individuals and companies.
