On the sixth episode of the “Grand Old Podcast,” hosted by ALGOP Chairman Scott Stadthagen, Republican nominee for Alabama Secretary of State Caroleene Dobson discussed why she’s ready for the role if she wins in November.
Dobson, a Montgomery real estate attorney and former Republican nominee for U.S. Congress, won the Republican Primary for Secretary of State in May with 65.5% of the vote.
The candidate said her campaign is all about “building trust in our elections and trust in our economy.”
“First and foremost, we’ve got to have strong leadership and we can only have strong leadership if we have secure elections,” Dobson said.
“I think sometimes we sort of miss that point. We get so caught up in looking at different candidates, but we don’t think about the underlying fundamental which is you can have good people step up to run and you can have folks that show up to vote, but if the process by which we elect those people is not secure, then it’s all for nothing”
Dobson has been campaigning on the need to create an Election Security Division within the Secretary of State’s Office.
“But, as we’ve seen, there are issues throughout our state and throughout our nation,” Dobson continued. “It’s incredibly important that our country passes the Save America Act, but here in Alabama, we need to be doing everything that we can to secure our elections.”
“It’s never been more vital that we have election security,” she added. “I want to create an election security division, election integrity and security division. Florida has a similar concept they put in place about four years ago. They call theirs an election crimes unit, but it’s investigative authority experts within the office of the Secretary of State to ensure that our elections are secure, that our voter roles only contain living US citizens that reside in Alabama.”
Dobson also wants to use her office to help create a more business friendly environment in the state.
“I also think there’s a role for the Secretary of State in in working with the legislature to try to make Alabama more competitive when it comes to choice of domicile in business incorporation and company jurisdiction. You know, we’re at this moment where Delaware or New York, California, these states where everyone used to want to incorporate, they’re losing, really losing due to the fact that they’ve elected socialists to run their states.”
Dobson will go up against Democrat Wayne Rogers, a political organizer and former federal prosecutor, in the November general election.
