Governor Kay Ivey believes it is time for the Trump administration to announce that the new Space Command Headquarters (HQ) will be moved to Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville.
“Alabama is the rightful home of Space Command Headquarters,” Ivey posted on X Wednesday. “And we’re ready for this to be made official.”

Ivey’s comments echo recent sentiments on the potential move by other political leaders in the Yellowhammer State.
After meeting with Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth this week, U.S. Sen Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) said he believes the announcement will come very soon.

“This week, I’ve spent several hours on the phone and several hours in the Oval Office with President Trump and Secretary Hegseth talking about the future of Space Command; not if, but when it happens, and that will be soon,” Tuberville said. “I’m confident we’ll get this done very soon. The state of Alabama, the city of Huntsville, and Madison County have already done their detailed coordination. They are ready. Again, not if, but when. We’re excited to seal the deal once and for all.”
In 2023, then President Joe Biden announced that the Space Command HQ would remain in Colorado despite the Air Force Secretary identifying Redstone Arsenal as the best site just two years earlier.
U.S. Sen. Katie Britt (R-Montgomery) also said she’s confident the announcement will come in the near future.
“I have all the confidence in the world that it will be coming back to Alabama,” Britt said. “And I think at this point, it’s a matter of weeks, and we’ll be able to start that transition and get moving.”
It is widely expected that the newly confirmed U.S. Air Force Secretary, Troy Meink, will officially move the Space Command HQ back to Huntsville.
