BIRMINGHAM – The rain couldn’t keep them away Thursday night as Yellowhammer News recognized its Power & Influence 50 at an event at the Renaissance Birmingham Ross Bridge Golf Resort & Spa.

This year’s sold-out Power & Influence 50 event featured some of the most powerful and influential players in politics and business from all corners of the state of Alabama

Two of the event’s special honorees were selected for the prestigious Power of Service award for their “generous contributions to improving our state.” Those were Alabama House Speaker Mac McCutcheon and neurosurgeon Dr. Swaid Swaid of the Swaid Clinic.

In his acceptance, McCutcheon offered a reminder to those in attendance that hold elected office the “human aspect” of what they do and how it is tied to the virtue of service.

“Let us never get to the point as elected officials that we do not forget the human aspect of what we do and why we do it,” McCutcheon said. “Thank you for this award, and I’m tremendously honored to receive this.”

Ivey, who took time away from the campaign trail, praised the recipients and credited them for Alabama’s forward momentum.

“This is a huge event and a wonderful moment,” Ivey said. “It is the men and women of our state that are the driving force behind our momentum and those of you who we are celebrating and honoring tonight help lead that charge.”
