Barry Moore’s campaign for Congress has received the endorsements from U.S. Representatives Jim Jordan (R-OH) and Andy Biggs (R-AZ), two of the most staunch conservatives in Congress.
Moore, a former state representative from Enterprise, is currently in a runoff against Dothan businessman Jeff Coleman for the Republican nomination in Alabama’s Second Congressional District, which encompasses most of southeast Alabama. That seat’s current occupant, U.S. Rep. Martha Roby (R-Montgomery) is choosing not to seek reelection.
Biggs is the current chair and Jordan is the most prominent member of the House Freedom Caucus, a group of Republicans in Congress’ lower chamber widely viewed as the most conservative group of lawmakers in the capitol.
“I am honored to receive the endorsements and support from the Freedom Caucus members Representatives Andy Biggs, Jim Jordan, and others,” Moore’s team told Yellowhammer News.
Jordan and Biggs endorsed Moore as one of a slate of candidates they support who first were identified by the House Freedom Fund, a political action committee with close ties to the Freedom Caucus.
Yellowhammer News confirmed with a spokesperson for Jordan that the prominent congressman endorses Barry Moore’s campaign. Assurances were made by the Moore campaign that Biggs endorsed via the same process.
Additionally, Jim Jordan’s campaign has given Moore $2,000 and Biggs’ campaign has given $1,000, per financial records reviewed by Yellowhammer News.
Moore placed second in the open March 3 primary, garnering 20% of the vote compared to Coleman’s 38%.
While consistently lagging in fundraising, Moore has emphasized his conservative credentials and service in the armed forces. No polling of the AL-02 race has been made available to the public since the primary.
The primary runoff will be held July 14.
