Global stainless steel leader launches U.S. operations with groundbreaking in Baldwin County, Alabama

Global stainless steel pipe manufacturer BUTTING officially broke ground Thursday on its first U.S. production facility and North American headquarters in Loxley, marking a major milestone in the company’s expansion into the American market.

The ceremony took place at the future site of BUTTING USA’s 58-acre campus in the Loxley Industrial Corridor. Attendees parked at Baldwin Preparatory Academy and were shuttled to the site for the event.

Rather than a traditional groundbreaking, BUTTING leadership, state officials, and local partners participated in a symbolic “rooting ceremony” by planting a 200-gallon live oak tree—chosen to represent the company’s long-term commitment to Baldwin County and the United States.

“Alabama continues to prove that we are the premier destination for global manufacturers looking to grow and succeed in America. BUTTING’s decision to put down roots in Loxley is a tremendous win for Baldwin County and for our entire state,” said Governor Ivey. “This investment brings good-paying jobs, while further cementing Alabama’s place as a leader in American manufacturing and international business.”

The project represents a $61 million capital investment and is expected to create up to 100 high-quality jobs with wages significantly above the Baldwin County average. BUTTING USA’s operations will be developed in two phases: the first will establish administrative offices, engineering, and fabrication capabilities, while the second will add two welded stainless steel pipe mills and expanded fabrication for advanced industries across North America.

“This ceremony represents more than a groundbreaking; it is a symbol of our intention to grow strong, lasting roots in the United States,” said Marcel Bartels, CEO Division Plant Construction BUTTING Group. “As a family-owned company with nearly 250 years of history, we are proud to carry our tradition of excellence and innovation to Alabama.”

BUTTING USA CEO and Managing Director Adrian Rochofski said the decision to locate in Baldwin County reflects the company’s confidence in the region’s workforce and long-term growth potential.

“Our decision to set down roots in Baldwin County speaks to our confidence in the people, infrastructure, and future of this region,” Rochofski said. “By planting this live oak, we symbolize our commitment to growing and thriving here for generations to come.”

Local leaders—including Loxley Mayor Richard Teal, the Baldwin County Commission, and representatives from the Alabama Department of Commerce and Baldwin County Economic Development Alliance—joined BUTTING’s global leadership team for the ceremony. Mayor Teal praised the significance of the moment.

“This moment goes beyond construction; it plants a promise,” Teal said. “BUTTING’s choice to root itself in our city reflects shared goals of growth, sustainability, and opportunity for our citizens. We are honored to welcome them.”

Founded in 1777 and headquartered in Knesebeck, Germany, BUTTING is a global leader in stainless steel pipes and components for energy, chemical, engineering, and cryogenic industries. The new Loxley facility will serve as the company’s first manufacturing site in the United States and will support distribution and fabrication across North America.

The groundbreaking follows BUTTING’s earlier announcement selecting Alabama for its U.S. expansion—a move highlighted by state and local officials as a sign of the region’s rising profile in advanced manufacturing and international investment.
