While Auburn’s first season under Hugh Freeze didn’t go exactly as planned on the field, one thing that cannot be disputed is the success Freeze has already brought to The Plains on the recruiting trail.
Freeze has acquired several 5-star prospects already, but there may not be one more impressive or exciting than wide receiver Cam Coleman.
Coleman, who was initially committed to play at Texas A&M, flipped his pledge to Auburn in early December to give Freeze his biggest recruiting win yet.
According to 247’s Composite Rankings, Coleman is ranked as the No. 1 player in the state of Alabama in the class of 2024, the No. 2 wide receiver in the nation, and the No. 4 player overall.
Coleman helped to lead Central Phenix City to their first state championship since 2018 in Class 7A, the highest level of high school football not just in the state but among the toughest in the nation as well.

In the state championship game over Thompson (who had won the previous four state titles), he had five receptions for 143 yards including this 73-yard fourth quarter score to extend Central Phenix City’s lead:

Standing at 6 foot 3 inches, possessing blazing speed to go with his size, Coleman is a matchup nightmare that will immediately make an impact in Auburn’s offense.

He won’t turn 18 until just before Auburn’s season begins, but Coleman is already on campus at Auburn as an early enrollee, getting accustomed to the offense and the leap to SEC football.
One of the better receiver prospects to ever come out of the state of Alabama, Coleman is certainly a player worth keeping an eye on this fall.
