GE Aerospace plans to invest $55 million in its Huntsville-area operations as part of a larger nationwide effort to expand manufacturing capacity and strengthen the aerospace supply chain.

The investment will support new and upgraded production equipment and building improvements at the company’s Huntsville site, helping increase capacity and maintain quality as demand for aerospace components grows.

The Huntsville facility plays a key role in producing advanced materials used in modern aircraft engines. The site manufactures Hi-Nicalon Type S silicon carbide (SiC) fiber and SiC pre-preg tape, critical building blocks used to create ceramic matrix composite components. These advanced materials are about one-third the weight of traditional metals and can withstand temperatures up to 500 degrees hotter, helping improve engine efficiency and durability.

Completed in 2017, the company’s Huntsville campus spans about 100 acres and focuses on advanced technology and lean manufacturing processes to produce the high-performance materials.

Local leaders say the investment reinforces the region’s growing reputation as a hub for aerospace and advanced manufacturing.

“GE Aerospace’s $55 million investment is a strong vote of confidence in our workforce and our community,” said Bethany Shockney, president and CEO of the Limestone County Economic Development Association. “This facility is producing cutting-edge materials that are literally changing how aircraft are built, and we’re proud Huntsville and Limestone County is at the center of that innovation.”

The investment is part of GE Aerospace’s broader plan to invest $1 billion in U.S. manufacturing sites and suppliers in 2026, the company’s second consecutive year committing that level of funding nationwide. The initiative aims to accelerate aircraft engine deliveries, expand production of key parts and strengthen defense manufacturing capacity.

In North Alabama, the funding continues a pattern of expansion. The Huntsville site has already seen more than $93 million in investments over the past three years, helping support the region’s role in the aerospace sector.

Limestone County Commission Chairman Collin Daly said the continued investment reflects the area’s growing economic momentum.

“This investment is exactly the kind of economic momentum that makes Limestone County a great place to live and work,” Daly said. “We’re grateful GE Aerospace continues to grow here, and we look forward to supporting their success for years to come.”

The company’s Huntsville operations are part of a larger aerospace corridor stretching across North Alabama, where defense, aviation and advanced manufacturing companies continue to expand.

Nationwide, GE Aerospace also plans to hire 5,000 workers in the United States in 2026, including manufacturing and engineering roles, as it increases production of both commercial and military aircraft engines.

Company officials say sustained investments in facilities, workforce and technology are critical to maintaining the United States’ leadership in aerospace manufacturing while meeting growing global demand for aircraft engines and components.
