Gadsden offering pedal boat rentals for Coosa River experience this summer

The City of Gadsden has announced that it is providing a new form of recreation on the Coosa River this summer.

Gadsden Mayor Craig Ford said on social media late last week that the city now has a variety of pedal boats up for rent on the river. Each boat is capable of holding up to five people, with two peddlers up front and a fully enclosed back bench seat.

“We are excited to offer families and friends something fun and safe to do together this summer while enjoying the great outdoors in Gadsden,” said Mayor Craig Ford. “I am looking forward to seeing all the pictures of the purple dragon, duck, and swans full of people going up and down the river.”

“It should be a lot of fun!”

The City began piloting the rentals over Memorial Day weekend. Anyone interested in renting the boats can visit the Coosa Landing bait shop starting at 9 a.m. The last rental of the day is at 5 p.m.

Renters must be at least 18 years old and bring an ID. Life jackets are required, and the city has some available for approved passengers.

The rental fee is $20, which provides access for up to one hour. However, if multiple hours are needed, the first hour is $20 and each hour thereafter is $15.

Due to Coosa Landing’s hours, the final rental of the day for Saturday, May 25, will be at 4 p.m. but the final rental will be at 5 p.m. once the landing’s hours expand for the summer on Sunday, May 26.
