Four must-watch games beyond Alabama and Auburn this weekend

It’s another weekend in the fall across the South and things are heating up in the Southeastern Conference.

The calendar is on the cusp of turning to November, and every game is going to have significant meaning from here on out.

As Alabama prepares to face South Carolina in a road test and potential trap game ahead of their bye week and final stretch, Auburn travels to Arkansas in a game that Hugh Freeze likely needs to win or be fired.

Outside of the Yellowhammer State – it’s another big week of action in the SEC.

Here are the four games you need to have your eye on this week.

#8 Ole Miss @ #13 Oklahoma

11:00 a.m. CST

It’s a top-15 matchup and potentially the game of the day up first in the early slot this week in the SEC as the Rebels try to bounce back from a heartbreaking loss last week against Georgia. Both teams enter the afternoon in Norman with records of 6-1 as the Sooners only loss came against Texas two weeks ago, and each is trying to keep their nose in the College Football Playoff picture.

It’s not quite a loser is eliminated matchup, but with things so tight in the SEC standings, this could go a long way towards determining who is playing in Atlanta, and ultimately what the postseason picture looks like.

Oklahoma is favored by less than a touchdown.

#15 Missouri @ #10 Vanderbilt

2:30 p.m. CST

The Commodores find themselves in the top-ten for the first time since right around World War II, in the midst of a historic season and still alive for the College Football Playoff. Each team here is also 6-1 with their only respective defeats coming against the Alabama Crimson Tide.

The Tigers meanwhile are fresh off an emotional overtime win against Auburn and will be looking to earn a second straight road victory.

With College GameDay in town, Vanderbilt is going to continue to try to prove after a huge win last week against LSU that they are the real deal and will continue to win games. The Commodores are favored by just under a field goal.

#22 Texas @ Mississippi State

3:15 p.m. CST

The Longhorn offense led by Arch Manning has been nothing short of a complete disaster this year, and it’s safe to say they have not come even close to reaching the expectations that many had for them before the year began. If Texas wants to keep its playoff hopes alive this week, it’s the Bulldogs — who are much improved from last year and seeking a signature win — standing in their way.

Starkville will be a raucous environment and it will be quite a challenge for Texas, who’s favored by just over a touchdown.

#3 Texas A&M @ #20 LSU

6:30 p.m. CST

These are two teams who are going in opposite directions right now, but it’s the marquee game of the week on the slate. After the Tigers dropped one against Vanderbilt last week in which once again they struggled on offense, they have a chance to get things back on track and stay alive with a win over the Aggies.

Texas A&M meanwhile is perhaps the quietest great team in the country right now, sitting at 7-0 and going about their business each and every week with a very balanced attack. The Aggies are favored by a field goal as they face perhaps their biggest test yet in Death Valley at night.

It should be another tremendous week of college football in the conference.
