Former U.S. Rep. Jerry Carl of Mobile teased a ‘major announcement’ on social media Wednesday, telling his followers to stay tuned. The two-term congressman, who represented Alabama’s first congressional district, said the big news will soon be made public.

Carl’s dispatch draws increased speculation that he is preparing to launch a campaign to run again for the district he lost in the 2024 Republican primary election to U.S. Rep. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise).

The two conservatives were forced to run against one another when Alabama redrew its congressional districting lines, moving Moore into District 1.

According to some, the 1st District seat will soon be open, with many experts all but guaranteeing a run from Moore for the U.S. Senate after he posted on social media in July about an announcement of his own.

Adding to the speculation, in mid-July it was revealed that Carl has already filed the paperwork to run for the office once more. Additionally, those close to Carl say he is very likely to enter the upcoming congressional race.
