Former University of Alabama football player Terrance Howard has died several days after being struck by a moving vehicle in North Carolina.
Howard, a Texas native who recently transferred from UA to North Carolina Central University, was in the process of moving his belongings from Tuscaloosa to Durham. According to Houston-based outlet KPRC-TV, Howard was involved in a minor car accident during a storm outside of Salisbury, N.C. He got out of his car to check on the well-being of the other driver, at which point he was critically injured by a third driver.
Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer commented on Howard’s death after the Crimson Tide’s Sunday practice.
“Before I make comments on the team, I do want to send along thoughts and prayers,” said DeBoer. “Terrance Howard, who was with us and transferred on to North Carolina Central, he did pass away and he’s got some guys who are here on this team close to him and also think about him. Just want to send prayers and thoughts up to his family.”
Howard’s family tells KPRC they have received an “outpouring of support” from the University of Alabama and former Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban.
