According to filings from the Federal Election Commission, former Alabama Attorney General Troy King is planning a bid for the U.S. House of Representatives.
According to a statement of candidacy filing with the FEC, King is seeking Alabama’s second congressional seat, currently occupied by U.S. Rep. Martha Roby (R-Montgomery).
Last month, Roby announced she would not seek reelection in 2020 for the seat she has held since 2011.
King joins State Rep. Will Dismukes (R-Prattville), former State Rep. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise), former Business Council of Alabama chairman Jeff Coleman and Montgomery’s Bob Rogers as candidates in the 2020 election.
King’s statement, first reported by Alabama Daily News’ Mary Sell, establishes his candidacy and allows for him to raise money for his bid for federal office.
Previously, King served as Alabama’s attorney general from 2004 through 2011. He lost his reelection bid in 2010 during the Republican primary to Luther Strange, who went on to become his successor. In 2018, King sought the AG’s office once again but came up short in the Republican primary runoff to current Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall.
