Naming major public projects after sitting politicians needs to stop.
That includes President Donald Trump.
Alabama’s massive new Mobile River bridge will be around long after today’s political fights are forgotten, and there’s no reason to turn it into another monument to a current officeholder.
Alabama has done this before, including naming the new Governor Kay Ivey Correctional Complex after the sitting governor.
Enough.
If the Mobile bridge needs a famous Alabama name, there’s an obvious alternative: Nick Saban.
Regardless of college football allegiance, Saban’s impact on Alabama extends far beyond football.
Don’t name the bridge after a sitting politician.
Name it after Nick Saban.
