The hotdogs and hamburgers were on the grill Tuesday as the Alabama Forestry Association and State Sen. Clyde Chambliss hosted a First Responder Appreciation cookout.
Chambliss (R-Prattville), forestry association staff, and volunteers from International Paper and Resource Management Service cooked hamburgers and hotdogs for about 150 first responders at Drive-In Park in Prattville.
“There is no way that I could do what these first responders do on a daily basis and this cookout is just a small token of our appreciation for all that they do to keep us safe, and take care of us when we have difficulties,” Chambliss said.
“My hat is off to each and every one of them and to their families. We are better as a community because of their sacrifice.”
Firefighters, paramedics and law enforcement officers from Elmore and Autauga counties stopped by.
Attorney General Steve Marshall joined state troopers from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency and their top official, Secretary Hal Taylor, for lunch as well.

State Reps. Kelvin Lawrence, Jerry Starnes and Van Smith also joined in to express their appreciation.
Attendees said the event was a great success and marked the 31st stop on the forestry association’s “Back the Blue Tour.”
