Mayor Ralph Hellmich of Foley announced late last week that he is seeking another term as head of the city’s municipal government. A lifelong resident of the south Alabama town, Hellmich began serving on Foley’s city council in 2004 and eventually became its mayor in 2020.
Prior to his time leading the city, Hellmich spent nearly 40 years with the State of Alabama Oil and Gas Board.
“I’m excited to officially announce that I’m running for re-election as your Mayor of Foley,” said Hellmich in a Facebook post. “Over the past five years serving as your Mayor, we’ve made meaningful progress together—upgrading intersections, improving public safety, investing in our schools, and expanding the parks and public spaces that make Foley such a special place to live.”
Hellmich said that despite the recent growth in Foley, there is still much to accomplish.
“With the message, ‘Your Mayor. Your Voice.’ I’m reaffirming my commitment to remaining an accessible, responsive leader who puts Foley residents first—always,” he said.
“Our commitment is to ensure Foley remains a safe, thriving, and welcoming community. We are dedicated to preserving what makes Foley unique while strategically planning for our future.”
Hellmich’s re-election website highlighted his prioritization of community needs through four core pillars: Infrastructure, Public Safety, Education, and Quality of Life. Under his leadership, Foley has recently upgraded intersections and strengthened pedestrian safety. Additionally, Foley has invested in modern fire equipment and police technology since Hellmich took over.
Election Day is scheduled for August 26 at the Foley Civic Center.
