U.S. Reps. Shomari Figures (AL-02) and Barry Moore (AL-01) have united behind new bipartisan legislation aimed at advancing the long-awaited Interstate 10 Mobile River Bridge and Bayway Project in Alabama. The Bridge Investment and Modernization Act, introduced by Figures and Rep. Mike Ezell (MS-04), would extend and increase funding for bridge infrastructure through 2031.
According to statements on their official websites, the bill reforms the 2021 Bridge Infrastructure Program by streamlining federal funding for major infrastructure projects across the country, including the critical highway connection between Alabama and Mississippi.
“This bill is a step in the right direction toward real advancements in projects like the I-10 Bridge and Bayway Project in my hometown of Mobile, Alabama,” Figures said. “This will help communities be better connected by working to ensure the completion of infrastructure projects all across America.”

Moore announced his cosponsorship of the legislation shortly after its introduction, praising its potential to cut red tape and accelerate construction.
“Alabama’s economy depends on strong roads and bridges to transport goods, support businesses, and connect our communities,” Moore said.
“I’m proud to support this bill, which makes critical reauthorizations to move federal dollars where they’re needed most while cutting the bureaucratic red tape we see so often in Washington. This bill allows for continued investments in American infrastructure and specifically advances projects like the I-10 Bridge and Bayway Project in Mobile, making travel safer and easier for so many across the Gulf Coast. I will continue working with President Trump and Transportation Secretary Duffy to ensure we deliver on a new I-10 bridge.”
The Bridge Investment and Modernization Act is expected to be considered as part of a larger transportation reauthorization package later this year or early next year.
