Swedish style is coming to Alabama.
IKEA U.S. plans to open its first-ever Alabama location in Huntsville in early 2026, bringing the Swedish retailer to University Place Shopping Center.
The 46,000-square-foot store is designed as a planning studio and showroom instead of a huge warehouse. According to the press release, it will feature a series of fully furnished “local living” room settings — displays tailored to the way North Alabama families live, work, cook and organize their homes.
Shoppers will see roughly 5,000 products on display, with more than 2,000 items available for immediate takeaway.
That includes over 75 small furniture pieces, such as chairs, tables, shelving and storage. Larger items like sofas and beds can be ordered online, with the option of free in-store pickup or low-cost home delivery. The store will also serve as a pickup point for qualifying IKEA-USA.com orders.
Expert design help, right in Huntsville
A major feature of the store will be its planning area, where customers can meet one-on-one with IKEA specialists. These design consultations will help shoppers map out kitchens, bedrooms, bathrooms, closets, offices and small-space solutions, making the Huntsville location a regional hub for home-design planning.
Yes, there will be Swedish food
IKEA’s food offerings — long a favorite among customers — will be part of the Huntsville experience. The store will include a Swedish food section serving hot and cold menu staples like meatballs, plant balls, hot dogs, veggie dogs, plant dogs, cinnamon buns and other take-home or dine-in options.
Old favorites find new homes
As part of the retailer’s global commitment to sustainability, IKEA Huntsville will feature an As-is Department where gently used and discontinued products are sold at lower prices. The company says the department is designed to give products a second life while offering more affordable home-furnishing options.
New services make IKEA Huntsville more convenient than ever
The store will support Click & Collect services, allowing customers to select “IKEA Huntsville” at checkout for free in-store pickup on qualifying online purchases. IKEA has also expanded its service offerings nationwide, including lower shipping costs, new IKEA Family and IKEA for Business benefits and TaskRabbit assembly services — all of which will be available to Huntsville shoppers.
Alabama officially joins the IKEA map
For years, Alabama residents have traveled to Atlanta, Nashville or Memphis to visit the nearest IKEA. The Huntsville location will make Alabama the newest state in the country with its own IKEA — marking a milestone for shoppers seeking affordable, Scandinavian-inspired design closer to home.
With the grand opening planned for early 2026, the Huntsville store is expected to become a regional destination for families, first-time homeowners, students and anyone looking to bring a bit of Swedish style into their space.
