State Rep. Mark Shirey (R-Mobile) has officially announced his re-election campaign for Alabama House District 100.
Shirey, who has represented the district for almost a full term, said he plans to continue drawing on his three decades of experience in healthcare and business to continue serving West Mobile.
“As a lifelong Republican, I believe in hard work, limited government, and prioritizing our communities,” Shirey said.
“Through my business, Southern Vision Care, I’ve provided quality eye care and created jobs in West Mobile for over two decades. As your representative, I bring that same dedication to fight for policies that bolster our economy, strengthen schools, protect our seniors and uphold our Alabama values.”
Shirey, a DeKalb County native now living in Mobile, graduated from the University of Alabama at Birmingham before earning his Doctor of Optometry from the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis. He previously served as president of the Alabama Optometric Association, where he worked to expand access to eye care across the state.
In the Legislature, Shirey has supported school choice, infrastructure improvements, and economic development.
He has also backed measures to assist Alabama farmers and cut regulatory burdens for businesses.
“I’m deeply grateful for the trust and endorsement of the Alabama Farmers Federation (ALFA) in my re-election campaign for the house,” Shirey said.
“It is simple, I’m not a politician—I’m an eye doctor, husband, father and businessman committed to fighting for District 100 and Alabama families ensuring safe communities, strong schools, a thriving economy, and policies that are free from woke ideology.”
He currently serves on the House Health Committee, the Commerce and Small Business Committee, and the Mobile County Legislation Committee.
Shirey owns and operates Southern Vision Care in West Mobile and has been active in state professional associations. The Republican primary for the seat is scheduled for May 19, 2026.
