Doug Jones breaks silence, echoes extremist ‘call to action’

Since the assassination attempt on President Trump last Saturday in Pennsylvania, former U.S. Senator and Alabama Democrat Doug Jones has been silent in its wake. Many prominent Democrats condemned the attack and wished the former president a swift recovery — while calling for elected officials and media outlets to tone down divisive rhetoric.

This morning, Jones broke his silence in the loudest possible way, reposting what he calls a “clarion call to action.”

The post, made by Democrat strategist David Yankovich, included language that leaders across both sides of the aisle argue is stoking political violence in America. In Yankovich’s lengthy rant, he states that, “Donald Trump and his MAGA extremists are LITERALLY going to take away everyone’s rights if they win.”

Jones elevated Yankovich, who said, “nobody is going to save us except us,” and that “this is the final quarter of the endgame.”

Jones praised this incendiary rhetoric, saying, “this long post by my friend @davidyankovich is worth your time. It’s both a clarion call to action and a challenge to ‘we the people’ to rise up and save democracy.”

Earlier this week, President Biden delivered his first major speech since the shooting in Pennsylvania. Biden condemned the act of political violence and said, “It is a tense moment just a few days after the assassination attempt on Donald Trump, we’re grateful he was not seriously injured, and we continue to pray for him and his family.”

“We all have responsibilities to lower the temperature and condemn violence in any form,” President Biden said. “You gotta remember, in America we’re not enemies, we’re friends, we’re neighbors.”

Jones has not condemned the attempt on Trump’s life nor issued any statement on the subject.
