Donald Trump Jr. on YellaWood’s support of healthcare workers: ‘This is the American Spirit President Trump talks about’

Donald Trump, Jr. recognized Alabama’s YellaWood for displaying the “American Spirit” often cited by his father, President Donald Trump.

In a social media post on Monday afternoon, the younger Trump quoted a story from Yellowhammer News outlining YellaWood’s generous act in support of Wiregrass healthcare workers.

YellaWood owner and founder Jimmy Rane provided 2,100 hospital employees a meal for five days. Every employee across every department in both hospitals reportedly received a sack lunch from a Wiregrass Chick-fil-A, as well as a pastry from Abbeville’s Kava Coffee Company, all free of charge.

“You may go eight to twelve hours and not get to go to the restroom or get anything to eat,” Flowers Hospital emergency room nursing director Amanda Powers told WDHN. “So knowing that somebody is taking the time send us some food, it nourishes you physically — and also spiritually and emotionally.”

Rane is well-known for being a champion of the Wiregrass community. He has emphasized the motto of his Great Southern Wood Preserving — “Duty, Honor, Country” — as being representative of the area’s shared values.

“It’s all about stewardship,” Rane previously said. “It’s all about stewardship. We are charged with doing our duty — and it’s a great feeling to know you’ve done your duty.”

Throughout his first term, President Donald Trump has referred to the “American Spirit” as worthy of praise. During a coronavirus task force briefing on April 1, he said, “The American spirit is unyielding, unwavering and unbreakable. It is incredible. I have never seen anything like it the way–the way the people have pulled together, the unity of this country.”
