Donald Trump confirmed to attend Alabama v. Georgia game in Tuscaloosa

Former President Donald Trump is confirmed for a return to Bryant-Denny Stadium this Saturday to watch the Alabama Crimson Tide take on the No. 1 Georgia Bulldogs at home. The University of Alabama, the Alabama Republican Party, U.S. Senator Katie Britt, and the Trump campaign itself have each confirmed the visit.

“We have been notified that the 45th President of the United States, Donald Trump, plans to attend the Alabama-Georgia football game on Sept. 28 after receiving an invitation from a private citizen,” a spokesperson for the University of Alabama confirmed.

According to UA, security protocols, including walk-through metal detectors and the enforcement of the clear bag policy, will continue to be in place, with additional measures enacted in collaboration with local and federal law enforcement agencies. Fans are advised to arrive early to expedite the screening process.

“The safety of our campus is and will remain our top priority, and UAPD will work closely with the U.S. Secret Service and other law enforcement partners to coordinate security,” the spokesperson for UA said.

On Friday, U.S. Senator Katie Britt (R-Montgomery) is holding a fundraiser in Birmingham expected to raise over $1 million for Republican swing state Senate candidates. Multiple candidates will be in attendance, along with NRSC Chairman Steve Daines, which was initially reported by Mark Halperin of Newsmax and confirmed by Britt’s team.

On Saturday, Sen. Britt is hosting President Trump and U.S. Senator Steve Daines (R-Mont.) at the Alabama game. A cavalcade of state and federal elected officials is also likely to be present throughout Trump’s visit.

“This is incredibly exciting for the Alabama Republican Party. It’s not every day you have a former U.S. President visit your state, especially in the middle of a contentious campaign,” Alabama Republican Party John Wahl told Yellowhammer News.

“I think this definitely speaks to two things: One, Donald Trump is a football fan — a college football fan. This is the third college game he has visited since he was elected as President in 2016. What I love is two out of those three included Alabama — so I don’t know for sure — but I like to think that Donald Trump may be a Tide fan. It’s hard to root against a team whose mascot is an elephant and whose color is red.”
