Hanu Karlapalem, Democrat candidate for Alabama House District 4, is urging state lawmakers to “vote no” on a federal appointment they have no say in.
The serial political candidate and far-left progressive, is vying for the Democrat nomination to run against Republican State Rep. Parker Moore (R-Decatur) in the November 2026 general election.
This week, Karlapalem sent an email to lawmakers blasting President Trump’s nominee for the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) Board – apparently unaware those nominations are handled by the U.S. Senate – not the Alabama Legislature.
In an email obtained by Yellowhammer News, goes after Trump appointee and Nashville Businessman Lee Beaman:
“I am writing to urge you to oppose Lee Beaman’s nomination to the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) Board of Directors.
Beaman is not qualified to oversee the nation’s largest public energy provider. He is a former car dealer and political megadonor, not an expert in energy, utilities, or the environment. His record is littered with abuse allegations, discrimination lawsuits, and political interference in transit projects.
When Tennessee pursued modern transit solutions, Beaman worked to kill those plans to protect his bottom line selling more cars. That kind of self-interest has no place at TVA.
TVA was created to serve the people, not as a political reward for wealthy insiders. Appointing Beaman would put TVA’s future, and the millions of people who rely on it, at serious risk.
Please put the public interest first. Vote NO on Lee Beaman’s nomination to the TVA Board.
Sincerely,
Hanu Karlapalem”
TVA board members are nominated by the president and confirmed by the U.S. Senate. The TVA Act of 1933 outlines this process: The nine-member board is appointed for five-year terms, with Senate confirmation required.
Karlapalem’s bizarre misunderstanding comes as Karlapalem in a reliably red district. The primary is set for May 19, with the general election on November 3.
