57th Spirit of America Golf Tournament
June 28 — July 2
The Spirit of America Golf Classic is Burningtree Country Club’s long-running, fundraising tournament held annually in conjunction with Decatur’s Spirit of America Festival, which itself is one of the largest, free Fourth of July festivals in the south. Established in 1967, this unique “college team and individual” format event has been home to collegiate players and top amateur players from across the nation. The format is 72-holes of stroke play, with a 54-hole collegiate team division. The “Spirit” tournament boasts many top graduates, like 1995 Champion-turned-PGA tour player Heath Slocum, and 1989 Junior Champion-turned-PGA tour player Stewart Cink.

Community Free Clinic Spirit of America 5 Miler
July 1
The Community Free Clinic Spirit of America 5 Miler takes place on July 1st at 2901 Point Mallard Drive SE. The 5-mile course will start at the corner of soccer fields near TC ALMON, runners will loop the field on the access road and then continue on the golf course road to the north trailhead and run the trail all the way back to the south trailhead. There will also be a 1-mile fun run following the 5-mile race.

Tennessee Valley Exposure
July 14-16
Tennessee Valley Exposure is a platform with the goal of giving local athletes the ability to improve their skills and gain notice from coaches throughout the South. Their goal is to host great events at quality venues at a reasonable cost. Tennessee Valley Exposure will be taking place from July 14-16.

Fishers of Men Legacy Series Championship
July 28-29
The 2023 Fishers of Men Legacy Series Championship will take place at Wheeler in Decatur from July 28-29. Fishers of Men began in 1998 as a four-division tournament trail and has now grown into one of the largest fishing tournament organizations in the country. The divisional tournament event consists of a professionally run fishing tournament on Saturday preceded by a meeting on Friday evening. All tournaments are team events, with each team consisting of two members.

Premier Soccer Services Labor Day Cup
September 2-3
The Alabama Labor Day Cup will take place from September 2-3. The event will offer participating teams the opportunity to play all their matches on great fields. Competition will be at a premium and there will be top-flight competition as well as 2nd and 3rd-tier levels of play which will give teams a tailored level of competition—from developmental to highly competitive.

Jesse Owens Runners Club 2023 Chickasaw Trails
September 9
The race venue is charming located in a setting with tons of history. The race course has 4-5 short hills, amazing trails through wooded areas, safe footing, well marked, well monitored, some packed gravel/dirt, some grass, wide starting area, spectator friendly and fast! The race venue has been host to two AAU National Meets, 19 years of hosting the Alabama High School Athletic Association’s State Cross Country Championships and has hosted college meets.

B.A.S.S. 2023 High School Combine
September 15-17
The Bassmaster High School Combine presented by Skeeter returns to Wheeler Lake in Decatur, Ala., Sept. 15-17 for a weekend combining skills challenges and recruiting visits in hopes of reeling in college fishing scholarship money. The first Combine netted more than $2.6 million in scholarship offers, with tallies for the second event still pouring in as athletes sign with teams from a variety of schools.
