The Alabama Crimson Tide secured another relatively easy win on Saturday afternoon in Tuscaloosa, handling the Wisconsin Badgers 38-14 to claim their second win of the year and set themselves up to face Georgia on a positive note.
Despite receiving deserved criticism following the embarrassment against Florida State a couple of weeks ago, the team has seemingly turned the page. It had looked like a whole new unit over the last two weeks. The one at the center of the criticism has, of course, been head coach Kalen DeBoer, as many fans have had things to say about his perceived laid-back demeanor as the Tide’s head coach.
DeBoer may not be outwardly fiery like his predecessor; however, it seems perhaps he is starting to find a balance. At halftime of the win with his team up 21-0, he gave an interview that will have Alabama fans fired up.
“There’s been some team football,” DeBoer said when asked about his takeaways from the first two quarters. “The defense had to step up when we gave them the ball after a missed fourth down. They got the takeaway right away. I love the way the offense has responded, had some longer situations, never said die, had to go 98 yards and find a way to get it done.”
When asked about his halftime message to the team, he showcased his best Nick Saban side.
“Don’t let up. No Mercy,” DeBoer simply stated and walked away.
Clearly, he believed it too, because on the very first play of the second half, DeBoer and his staff dialed up a trick play which ended in a 75-yard touchdown for Ryan Williams to put Alabama up by four scores.
Fans will have a clearer understanding of the team’s current standing after their upcoming game in Georgia in two weeks. However, considering the team’s performance and DeBoer’s increasing dissatisfaction with anything less than perfection, supporters can feel more optimistic about the program’s direction.
