U.S. Rep. Dale Strong (R-Monrovia) is confident that the new U.S. Space Command Headquarters location will be in Huntsville once President Trump’s nominee for Secretary of the Air Force is confirmed.
Strong’s colleague on the House Armed Service committee and in the Alabama congressional delegation, U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Saks), confirmed recently confirmed that the Trump administration is planning on putting the new HQ in the Rocket City.
“I expect sometime during the month of April, that space command will officially be assigned to build its headquarters in Huntsville,” Rogers said on Auburn University’s McCrary Institute’s “Cyber Focus” podcast .“I’ve already talked with the contractor. He is ready to turn dirt on the day the announcement’s made, and we do expect it to be announced right after the Air Force Secretary is named.”
Strong, whose congressional district includes Redstone Arsenal and the Marshal Space Flight Center, reacted to the comments, saying he believes Troy Meink, Trump’s pick to lead the Air Force, will make sure that’s exactly what happens.
“Everyone knows that U.S. Space Command Headquarters should be in Huntsville, Alabama because that is best for our national security, Strong said. “I’ve met with President Trump and Vice President Vance, and can assure you the topic of Space Command came up. The 21-category selection process speaks for itself, and I look forward to the new Air Force Secretary recommending Huntsville to be the permanent home for Space Command Headquarters when he is sworn in.”
The House Armed Services Committee had launched an investigation into the continued delays in the selection of a permanent base for the U.S. Space Command Headquarters in 2023 after reports indicated President Joe Biden was working to reverse the decision to put it in Huntsville.
The congressman has been optimistic on the new HQ coming to Huntsville since Trump was elected back in November.
“I’m bullish on Space Command. I believe that,” Strong said last month “I had a meeting with the president last week in the Oval Office and the vice president was there, also. I believe that we’re fixin’ to soon watch as Space Command is announced for here in North Alabama.”
