I wanted Governor Kay Ivey to issue an executive order or allow the legislature to act on a vaccine mandate ban that would “protect” Alabama workers.
She didn’t really do that, but what she announced yesterday looks good, right?
The federal government’s overreach has given us no other option, but to begin taking action, which is why I am issuing this EO to fight these covid-19 vaccine mandates. As long as I’m governor, AL will not force anyone to take the vaccine. #alpolitics ➡️ https://t.co/d490Ogyevf

She would tell you that she acted.
But did she? No, she didn’t.
Sure, there is an executive order, but that’s just head fake and deception.
What does the order do?
It tells the state to fight President Joe Biden’s mandate that will impact members of the military, government employees and contractors.
This was already happening.
It tells state employees that they are not to be subjected to a mandate.
This was already clear. She is the head of state government and didn’t implement a mandate.
But state schools can, and will, have their own mandates because they take federal dollars.
Private employers can, and will, have their own mandates because Ivey wants to protect businesses from government intrusion — unless that intrusion protects them from lawsuits and forces their wage earners back to work after Governor Ivey takes away their enhanced unemployment benefits months earlier than necessary.
To be clear, I support those moves, but I am not sitting here pretending small-government conservatism means you protect businesses and screw employees.
True, real, consistent conservatives will tell you it is good that employers can fire their employees after using the government to drag them back to work.
Once again, they want to fire workers that worked through the entire pandemic without a vaccine for not getting a vaccine as Alabama’s COVID-19 numbers crater.
Conserve that conservatism for the little guy.
But, sadly, it seems to be working for now. I assume this all fades away when employers tell these people that they can still do whatever they want.
Look at the replies to Governor Ivey’s tweet on this issue.
Some think she is leading us to an apocalyptic plague.

These people are being completely misled.
Legislative leaders are praising this? Why?
This is a diversion. Hopefully, those praising Governor Ivey on this matter realize that they are being misled. My guess is they will figure it out when they and their loved ones get fired, lose their homes and their families suffer.
Governor Kay Ivey could stop this. She chooses not to, and what is worse is she has now chosen to mislead people.
When you read the responses to Ivey’s vaccine mandate from the people, the media and from legislators, you would be understandably confused. Do they think we are stupid, or are we stupid?
Both?
