Cyber school success formula: 17 grads = $3.6M + 31 ACT

They may be small but they are mighty!

Seventeen students at the Alabama School of Cyber Technology & Engineering will have made more than the grade when they graduate Thursday from the ASCTE Schola in Huntsville.

Those 17 seniors, representing the school’s first on-campus graduating class, will have earned nearly $3.6 million in merit-based scholarships and boast an average ACT score of 31. ASCTE is the only school in the nation focused on integrating cyber into the engineering lifecycle.

Each senior also completed a semester-long internship with Raytheon Technologies and Alabama SuperComputer in Huntsville.

“We are so incredibly proud and impressed with the hard work and dedication our students put into their academic endeavors,” said Matt Massey, ASCTE president. “And while we know that we provide one of the most unique and rigorous academic programs in the nation, it is affirming to see our students clutch scholarships and college offers that reflect the breadth and depth of our academic program.”

The accomplishments of the Class of 2023 continue to pour in.

From Pike Road, Joshua Ledlow is the school’s first National Merit Finalist and will attend Georgetown University.

Javen Bies-Dupree of Birmingham received an Academic Elite Scholarship to the University of Alabama – an honor given to only eight incoming freshmen.

Collectively, the senior class earned approximately 35 college admission offers from across the country spanning the spectrum of selectivity.

“Our students continue to achieve high levels of academic and extracurricular achievement that provides an excellent foundation in the college admission process,” said Sheri Crigger, ASCTE college counselor. “We look forward to applauding them as they take these next steps in life.”

The public is invited to attend the commencement exercises Thursday at 6 p.m.
