Community rallies behind T.R. Miller football player after spinal injury

Seven months after suffering a serious neck injury during a T.R. Miller High School football game, Ken Lett Jr. continues to recover—and his community is making sure he doesn’t do it alone.

The Brewton athlete was injured during a game in September 2024, requiring surgery for a broken neck. His coach, Brent Hubbert, later shared that Lett was in good spirits after the procedure and thanked the public for its outpouring of support. In a message posted on social media, Hubbert said the prayers had made an impact and that Lett was determined to overcome the setback, waking up each day with a winning mindset.

That same determination has inspired those around him. Over the weekend, family, friends, and neighbors gathered in Beatrice to take part in a parade organized by Lett’s hometown church, Cathedral of Faith Christian Center. The event, called Come Ride with Ken,” served both as a fundraiser and a show of encouragement for the high school athlete.

According to a report from WSFA 12, participants traveled through town in golf carts, four-wheelers, and even on horseback—many wearing shirts bearing Lett’s motto.Never Lett Up.” Along the route, supporters cheered and offered donations to help cover the ongoing transportation costs for Lett’s physical therapy, which takes place in Mobile.

Ken led the parade from the front, joined by his family, who said they have been overwhelmed by the generosity and kindness shown since his injury. His mother, Tonya Lett, said the continued support gives the family strength as they navigate his recovery.

Though he still faces a long road ahead, Lett remains committed to regaining his health. He credits his progress to faith and perseverance.
