Commodores QB Diego Pavia says Vanderbilt will be ‘new staple of college football’

The Vanderbilt Commodores have been the basement dwellers not even just of the SEC, but really all of college football for as long as many fans can remember.

In the 2024 season though, things finally started to turn in favor of the long suffering Commodores.

An early win over Alabama which was the best in the history of the program gave way to what was their first winning season in over a decade, and it was all led by electrifying quarterback Diego Pavia.

One year after pulling off an insane upset over Auburn with New Mexico State, Pavia would defeat Alabama and Auburn in the same season with Vanderbilt.

Though he has made a habit of owning the programs in the Yellowhammer State, he now has his eyes set on his team’s biggest rival at home.

During a recent interview with the Bussin’ With The Boys, Pavia revealed incredibly lofty goals he has for the program this season is what is supposed to be his final year of eligibility.

“Vanderbilt is gonna run Tennessee after this year,” Pavia said in a not so subtle shot against the Tennessee Volunteers. “This is gonna be the new staple of college football. It’s going to happen here at Vanderbilt….Everyone wants to come to Tennessee because of Nashville. They want to come to Nashville, so Vanderbilt.”

Pavia went on to talk about the increased NIL funding at Vanderbilt and wholeheartedly believes that if his team gets the job done this year, elite recruiting will follow.

In another fascinating section of the interview, Pavia revealed that he had offers from SEC programs worth millions of dollars to get in the portal, but he turned them down to stay at Vanderbilt.

Time will tell if he made the right decision and time will certainly tell if his lofty goals for the Commodores program are actually attainable.
