‘Coach is a man of faith’: Bruce Pearl offers poignant thoughts on Hugh Freeze after cancer diagnosis

Last week, fans of the Auburn Tigers worldwide were shocked to learn the football program’s head coach Hugh Freeze had been diagnosed with a form of prostate cancer.

Luckily, the school announced the cancer was vert treatable and curable after being caught early and Freeze would be able to continue his day to day operations within the football facility and not have to stop working.

On Monday, men’s basketball head coach Bruce Pearl was asked about Freeze in the wake of his team claiming an SEC title, and as Pearl usually does, he gave a thoughtful answer surrounding his coaching counterpart on The Plains and his faith and resolve.

“Coach has an incredible family,” Pearl said. “Coach is a man of faith. He trusts his God and he’s in a way better spot than people without that faith. He is going to do what’s best for his football family and his family.”

As Freeze prepares for his third season at Auburn – one he hopes is much more successful than the previous two have been – his diagnosis will put both his family and his faith at the forefront even more so than it already is just as Pearl says.
