Coach Bruce Pearl for U.S. Senate? Some say it’s possible

With U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville announcing his run for Alabama governor, speculation has now begun regarding his possible replacement in Washington, D.C.

It’s already widely expected that Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall will run, but how about another well-known college sports coach with Auburn ties?

According to a recent report by Semafor, there has been some “chatter” in the Republican Party that Auburn Basketball Coach Bruce Pearl might campaign to fill the seat left vacant by Tuberville.

While Pearl is a very successful coach for the Tigers, he also has not shied away from speaking out on political issues, especially when it comes to national security and Israel.

“One person familiar with the situation said they heard Pearl plans to run — he’s chairman of the US Israel Education Association, and he was on Capitol Hill just last week,” the report states.

In a recent post on X, Pearl directly addressed Democrats who have not been aligned with one of America’s most important allies.

Pearl has a $5.9 million salary with Auburn and was recently named Coach of the Year by the Associated Press, suggesting that he has no reason to step away from the world of coaching.

“The compensation is a little bit different,” Tuberville told Semafor. “I wouldn’t let him do it because he did such a good job at Auburn. We need him there.”
