Cindy Myrex steamrolled to an overwhelming win in Alabama House District 12 on Tuesday, defeating Democrat Matt Glover 87.06% to 12.85%, according to the unofficial results from the Alabama Secretary of State’s office.
Turnout was roughly 2,234 voters.
Myrex’s landslide caps a hard-fought primary path to office. In July, she fell roughly two dozen votes shy, 49.8%, of avoiding a runoff before defeating Clint Hollingsworth in an August election 58.5% to 41.5%.
On Tuesday, Myrex put up major numbers in the crimson-red Cullman-area seat that former State Rep. Corey Harbison carried by over 85% in 2022.
Among those on hand for the landslide victory was Alabama Senate President Pro Tem Garlan Gudger (R-Cullman), neighboring State Rep. Heath Allbright (R-Holly Pond), who won a Cullman-area special election of his own this summer, as well as Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Sarah Stewart to swear Myrex in on the spot.
“On behalf of the Alabama Republican Party, I want to extend our congratulations to Representative-elect Cindy Myrex on a well-run race. Cindy’s commitment to her community and conservative values will serve the people of House District 12 well,” Alabama Republican Party Director of Legislative Affairs & Communications Jeannie Burniston said on Tuesday night.
“We look forward to working with her when the legislature returns to session next year.”
Myrex, a Smith Lake realtor and first-time candidate backed a high-profile repeal of a local annexation law that drove controversy in both HD12 and neighboring HD11 special elections earlier this year. Gudger, who authored and passed the bill, later said he will offer a repeal in the 2026 session.
Democrat Matt Glover, a former Good Hope city councilman raised about $4,000 to Myrex’s $158,678, on top of a $50,000 loan, campaign finance records show.
Myrex will serve during the 2026 legislative session and be back on the ballot for re-election in the May 19, 2026 primary election.
