CahabaQue Cook-Off brings home bacon for breast cancer research

The Spring CahabaQue BBQ Cook-Off set a fund-raising record over the weekend to help the Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama.

The biannual event hosted by the Cahaba Brewing Co. raised $38,946 as 19 teams competed for the Best CahaBUTT.

“We are thrilled to have raised the highest amount in CahabaQue’s history,” said Eric Meyer, COO and co-owner of Cahaba Brewing Co. “We love hosting this event because it’s so fun, but also because the cause is so important.

“Every dollar raised will support lifesaving projects to advance breast cancer detection, diagnosis, and treatment to make a difference in the lives of those affected.”

Beth Davis, foundation president and CEO, said she was grateful for the funds raised at the event.

“We want to extend a special thanks to the judges, volunteers, cook team members, sponsors, and of course BBQ enthusiasts who joined us,” said Davis. “Events like CahabaQue are critical to growing our funding for breast cancer research and fueling a future without this devastating disease.”

    Third place: Americana Smoke Shop

  • People’s Choice Side
    First place: Local 1295
    Runner-up: Chief Grilldaddy & the Hose Draggers
    Third place: Pulled Pork Express
  • Most Creative Team Name: The Silence of the Hams

Since their inception in 2013, the cook offs have raised a total of $228,532 for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama. The next CahabaQue will be Oct. 7.
